PKI is based on asymmetric cryptography, where a user has a pair of cryptographic keys – a public key and a private key. Asymmetric cryptography allows the use to encrypt and sign data or messages.

A certificate authority is able to verify a certificate, i.e. the authenticity and the valid applications of public keys (and key pairs).

• Directory Service
• Certificate Validation Service
• and the relevant documentation (Certificate Policy, CP and Certificate Practice Statement, CPS)
